I want to take a second to thank all those that attended and helped organize the amazing evening our hockey community had last Friday evening to raise some money for the families of the Humboldt Broncos.
We raised $7453.40 to send to help those make it a little easier to rebuild their lives after an unspeakable tragedy. We still have an online auction of a private poker lesson with Canada's own Daniel Negreanu, so hopefully a few more bucks will be raised with that!
A few shoutouts! First to Brenda Chmiliar. Brenda won the 50/50 for over $600. What did she do? Donated every penny back to the cause! What a fantastic gesture and just shows the quality of people and the size of the hearts in our community.
Second, to Lorra Bedard and Val Lindsay, who were there to set everything up and stayed untill after midnight to help clean and organize after most had left.
Third, to Dale Lupul and those that assembled the on-ice portion of the evening. What a great game, full of highly-skilled players that put on a great show. Thanks to Al Robbie and his reffing partner who donated their evening to making sure the game ran smoothly.
Fourth shoutout goes to Laura Shelton and Pam Galvez who stepped up and helped build out the event in a very short period of time. Way to go, ladies!
Last but not least, to the two shining examples of fine young men that a game like hockey and a community like ours can mould. We often talk about how the game teaches life lessons to our kids and there are no better examples than RMMHA alumni Andrew Henderson and Darian Sommerfeld. Two guys who wanted to do whatever they could to help out our fellow families in need. We're proud of you guys!
